Adam Levine: He is the luckiest guy on the planet. I’m sure he can get any girl in the world if he wants, but why does he have to throw it in our faces all the time. In almost all of Maroon 5’s music videos, the lead singer, Adam Levine is the main man in them. And for some reason, he always has the hottest chick co-starring, who is almost always making out etc. with him. You don’t think I am right, well this is my proof. Recently, Maroon 5 released their new single called ‘misery’, and Oh my god, the girl is so fine! But then you think, wait I’ve seen more of their videos, going back to ‘This love, Goodnight Goodnight, She will be loved’, the list goes on. Every one of them has Adam Levine hooking up with the hottest chicks ever. I recently read an article on MTV news that was talking about the music video of their latest song ‘misery’ and how it shows him “beaten to a pulp, menaced by rocket launchers and tossed off a building into oncoming traffic.”

The article goes on to say, “here’s plenty of folks out there who’d like to see Levine suffer some kind of bodily harm. After all, he’s supremely handsome and cocksure. He gets all the girls. He has sold millions of albums. You can’t blame folks for thinking that, on some level, he surely has this coming.” I honestly love what MTV said about him, but the fact is, in the end of it, he still got to hook up with another stunning girl, so I’m just going to go ahead and say it. Although he can get any girl he wants, guys, I’m sorry, he is still going to keep throwing it in our faces, we just have to find a way to beat him in other ways!!! Rihanna has gone through a lot in the last year and a half, but reports say she is finally back to normal, or even better than normal as she has found a new ‘balance’ in her life. Of course she went through tremendously hard times after splitting with ex boyfriend, Chris Brown, because he had assaulted her, but she goes on to say that the reason why things are better than ever is because “there’s a balance in my life that wasn’t there before.” Well of course there wasn’t a balance before when she was in a relationship that ended because her boyfriend assaulted her. Going back to Rihanna, she has come through a lot, and although she is loving life right because her album Rated R is doing really well, and she happened to start a new relationship with a Los Angeles Dodger, Matt Kemp, she states that the reason why everything is great is because, “It makes you feel so proud when you look back and see how much it took you to actually get here.”

She is finally there, and I’m glad she is loving life and doing well, because she is happy again, and because of it, she is creating some really good music that many of us have fallen in love with! She also goes on to give a word of advice to everyone in Seventeen’s latest magazine article, “Don’t be afraid to be yourself just because you’re not like everybody else in class. If you want to dye your hair green and that’s what makes you happy, then dye your hair green — no matter what other people might say about it. Not everybody is going to like you. That’s the world we live in. That’s reality.” She has discovered the secret to her happiness, and it is great to see her sharing her views on people and happiness! More on Rihanna here at MSC!
Who is Janelle Monae? Not many people have heard about her, but to me she is one of 2010’s breakthrough artists. Her new album, ‘The ArchAndroid’ is voted one of the best albums of 2010 so far by MTV, and she is going to continue to get even better and more popular. Janelle Monae went to New York, from her home town of Kansas City, a few years ago to study theatre at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. While growing up, she was a great singer, but her aspiration was to have a career in Broadway, although all that changed when she realized that her main goal was to change the world, and the only way she knew how to was by pursuing a career in music instead. This gives her a voice to write and sing whatever she wants to. I know that sounds cliché, but from what I’ve seen and heard about her so far, it seems to me that she is another one of those artists, like MIA, whose music is a voice for change.

She states that her work on her latest album, over the last two years, has taught her to “embrace the things that make me unique and to continue being an even bigger agent of change, especially as an artist.” Janelle signed with P Diddy’s record company – Bad Boy Records, and he heaped praise on her saying that she is “a true visionary… one of the most important signings of my career”. One of the first tracks that I heard by her is called Many Moons, which puts me in this happy mood every time I listen to it. You can see how Big Boi from Outkast, who she also founded the Wondaland Arts Society with, was the producer of this song, and it shows in the song because of the same flow like many of his own songs. I am very impressed by Janelle Monae, from the style of her music, to her aim in what she wants people to get out of from listening to her. Her true wish for all her fans is that she wants them to inspired by her music, going on to say she wants people to “embrace their own superpowers and become the voice of change, the hero—or The ArchAndroid—in their own communities.” Get Janelle Monae’s new album here for free!

Why is it that most rappers or hip hop artists tend to boast so dramatically in their songs? And why is it that this is an occurrence that repeats itself regardless of the artist, the sub-genre, or the album? What is it they have to prove?
I immersed myself into the Lil’ Wayne album, Rebirth, with high expectations due to its overwhelming success. I heard Wayne had guitarists play on the record and had intertwined elements of rock into his hip hop hysteria. Well, the guitars are so muffled that they’re distorted beyond belief. All we hear is his voice boasting about the amount of women he’s had sex with, the amount of drugs he can consume at one time, and the amount of people he’ll hypothetically kill if they bother him.

Lil’ Wayne disappoints. Humility in hip hop is unfathomable and lyrical suicide. Demonstrating any remote connection to the audience is unheard of, and instead, these artists reflect upon themselves as Gods of the craft. They are not Gods. They are but stains upon the genre to be removed by a revolutionary; whenever they decide to reveal themselves.
I regularly listen to all kinds of music and genre’s, but lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Jay-Z, from songs like Lucifer to more of his new tracks like Empire State of Mind. He is just so great, but this is why I think he is the man! When I was growing up, I had a Jay – Z t-shirt that said “I’m not a businessman; I’m a business, MAN”. This was a long time ago, but what’s great about this quote is that he is not just a businessman, he IS a business man. He is one of the most successful hip hop artists ever, and along with rapping and producing new albums, he owns the 40/40 club, a successful sports bar chain around America. He also has co-ownership in the New Jersey Nets Basketball team, and is the creator of a big fashion chain called Rocawear. These are many reasons why he is the man, but to me, it goes to his music and the way he performs it.

I recently saw him live at this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California. Yes I saw Beyonce perform Forever Young with him, and it was out of this world, his whole performance was. So this is why I think he’s the man – I listen to him every now and then, but I have never really appreciated him. After seeing him live, I realized that he sounds as good as he does when you’re listening to him on your IPod. I don’t know, maybe the speakers were great, but I really appreciate his him and his music so much more now. He is truly the man! Come listen to more of his music at MSC!
Being voted the best rapper alive, Eminem (Marshall Bruce Mathers III) has gone through various lows and highs to make his music the way it is. From dropping his first album called Infinite, Eminem had a minimum wage paying job to support himself financially. After coming second place in the rap Olympics in 1997, the source described him as the next “unsigned hype.” Being signed by Dr.Dre, Eminem knew his life would transform entirely. Though he has won many Grammy Award’s and been nominated for Golden Globes, he is still known as the most controversial rapper alive. Through various albums, Eminem has gone through stages that has inflicted upon his music. He has dropped 8 albums, which are Infinite, Slim Shady LP, Marshall Mathers LP, The Eminem Show, Encore, Relapse, and Recovery. As Eminem succeeded in multi-platinum record sales, Interscope granted him his own record label. He and his manager Paul Rosenberg created Shady Records in late 1999. He followed this by signing his own Detroit collective D12 and rapper Obie Trice to the label. In 2002, Eminem signed 50 Cent through a joint venture between Shady and Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label. He has showed his versatility by appearing in two films which include The Wash and 8 mile, which he was nominated for a Golden Globe. Despite all the fame and fortune, Eminem was addicted to alcohol and prescription drugs such as Vicodin, Ambien, Valium, and Methadone. He was heavily into drugs when his best friend “Proof” passed away in a gun firing at a bar in Detroit.

I feel that every critic that ever gave a critique about Eminem’s albums, has gone back and re-rated it once they heard it twice. They always give it a 3, but in the end, they give it a 5/5 because, even with me, his songs grow on me. His last three albums couldn’t be more different, and when he dropped Encore he was still on drugs, Relapse he was flushing them out, and Recovery, it seems like music has become his high. With the different styles of flows and personalities Eminem has within each album, he still delivers amazing music. More on Eminem here, at MSC!
Last year Chris Brown was nowhere to be seen when artists such as Ne-Yo and Jamie Foxx performed tributes to Michael Jackson at the BET awards show. Of course to many people he would’ve been the perfect candidate to honor someone who he had idolized for his entire life, but at that time, his personal problems with Rihanna prohibited him from being there. This year, right after MJ’s one year death anniversary, Chris Brown was back, there to honor his idol. He had an impeccable dance performance, dancing to MJ’s “Remember the Time”, “Smooth Criminal”, and “Billie Jean”. Although his dance performance was perfect, he didn’t have it in him to sing “Man in the mirror”, as many of his true feelings about MJ and possible his personal life came out, and he started weeping. Many people believe that “Man in the Mirror” was the ideal song for him to sing, especially after everything that happened between Rihanna and him, because he wants people to forgive him for what happened, and although Chris Brown tried finishing it, he couldn’t, even with the help of all his fans.

Although, Chris Brown couldn’t finish strong for obvious reasons, his performance from start to finish, was something great that took place at the BET awards for everyone to remember! While looking at his performance, we think about if it will revive his career or not? From what I saw at the BET awards, everything he did, from start to finish was sincere. He was doing something he loves, about someone he loved/idolized, so everything including his breakdown was sincere. Some might think that his breakdown was all because of publicity, but I truly believe that we saw the real Chris Brown, and I think it will start to revive his career, because it starts from when people feel something for him, and I think many people truly did! Get more music from all these artists here!
It was one year ago that we all heard about the unfortunate news about Michael Jackson’s death. To many of us, it was a complete shock, especially because the world was anxiously waiting for his music tour to start. To me, the sad demise of this iconic figure was a complete shock and like all very big tragedy’s that unfortunately take place, I will always remember where and what I was doing when I first found out, which at first, I could not believe, because a friend told me through a text message. It took countless texts back and forth with my friend, and then for me to check on BBC news to find out that it was actually, really true.

Of course, when everything became reality, my heart sank into my arms and the only way for me to feel better was by listening to his greatest hits album for the whole day. This is when I finally stopped mourning, and rather started to celebrate the great life and music of Michael Jackson, the legend of pop. So today, let’s all celebrate his life once again, let’s listen to ‘Billie Jean’, let’s dance to ‘Beat it’ while getting thrilled by ‘thriller’. Let’s just celebrate Michael Jackson the way his life is supposed to be celebrated. More on Michael Jackson with us, MSC!
What is so great about Justin Bieber? That’s what I typed in on Google before writing this article. Looking at many blogs etc, some say ‘they really don’t know,’ and others go as far as saying “He is 16 and all his songs are about love. It’s like dude! You’re way too young to be saying you’re in love.” Others like him a little more, “he’s a white boy that can sing AND dance, there is not that many of those.” The point is that there is nothing special about him to many of us not in his age group. Personally, I think he’s terrible and I would never listen to him, but I’m not part of his target audience.

The people he is targeting are young tweens who love him and think he is the cutest person in the world! So what is so great about him? There are many. He was raised by a single mother and while growing up she worked many jobs just to support her family. Although his family went through many troubled experiences, Justin still taught himself how to play the piano, drums, trumpet and guitar. He has a 4.0 in school, and is one of the most talented young musicians there is. That’s why kids his age adore him, because in their eyes, he is perfect – and thats what matters, he is loved by his fans and there’s nothing anyone can really say about that. Plenty of Justin Bieber songs here, so come listen to him here!
Recently, it was reported that Lady Gaga was wearing sky high boots to go with her outrageous looking outfit, while walking through London’s Heathrow airport, and took a fall. Luckily she did not hurt herself, but It makes me wonder why on earth anyone would be wearing an outfit like that while traveling on an airplane, or better yet, why was Lady Gaga wearing those ridiculously high heels, which in my opinion, look like crap, along with the fact that it just looks very uncomfortable for anyone to be wearing at all, especially on an airplane. Of course she was traveling first class, but a seat doesn’t change the fact that it was too high for her to handle, in the end contributing to her fall, not on an airplane but in an airport terminal.

Of course Lady Gaga has an outrageous fashion style, but I’m trying to figure out if she has just totally lost it, or if the media’s extensive coverage on a celebrity’s life makes a person the way she is. Other than that, she is still loved by many around the world who are crazy about her music, but I would love to hear what her fans have to say about this issue. And while you’re at it, MSC has every song Lady Gaga has to offer, so listen to her here.
